More details coming soon. But here’s the quick answer: You need to install the flip for video software that comes on the camera onto the mac and then install all the added codecs that it asks you to. Then, you need to drag the avi files from DCIM folder on the camera to the desktop. Then, drag the files into imovie itself and they should work. Also keep in mind, that all mac laptops come with a built in video camera that can record direct into imovie (this camera works great for talking head shots though not so good for outdoor / on location).
